The House

Your energetic young hosts will feed you with enthusiasm, beauty and homegrown food in their fine house and fabulous gardens

With its incomparable heritage gardens and long history, Kilmokea is hard to fault. Mark and Emma could not be more gracious, welcoming and so very helpful, they somehow find time to bring up three young children and run a cafe and craft shop here as well. Bedrooms in the main house are in relaxed good taste: thick carpets, lovely beds, smart antiques, delicate fabrics to match their floral names. Two in the converted courtyard suite are simpler but just as inviting. In the evening guests meet over a drink and your hosts make sure everyone is introduced before sitting down in the formal Regency dining room at separate tables. Many ingredients come from the organic walled kitchen garden, eggs from hens that graze the pretty apple orchard: integral parts of Kilmokea's chemical-free botanical treat. Breakfast is deliciously fresh and unusual, too. The gardens cover seven acres, peacocks strut by the Italian loggia, paths and bridges lead past a trout lake to a hide whence you can watch coastal birds swoop over the estuary. Plus the heated pool, gym, jacuzzi, sauna. We welcome you one and all to this remarkable oasis.

The AA has awarded us with 5 Diamonds and their good dining award and in 2011 & 2012 we were awarded their Premium award, one notch above 5 diamonds. There are only 15 establishments in this category in the country !. Kilmokea is open from February until November and shall stay open at weekends on request throughout the winter of 2012/2013. Our self catering options are available all year around and our outdoor leisure facilities remain open for our guests to enjoy.

Kilmokea is a member of Hidden Ireland – a unique collection of historic private houses offering the very best and most stylish Irish country house accommodation.

And Finally... for those of you who like reading reviews, we would urge you to read our guests comments or contact your friends who have stayed at Kilmokea. We always ask our guests to chat with us about any tiny part of their stay so that we can enhance their experience to make it as good as we possibly can for them. We open our house to guests because we like looking after people and helping them to enjoy this beautiful place called Kilmokea. We work terribly hard to maintain it to the best of our ability. Enjoy...
